Optomap

Did you know that the retina (the light detecting layer at the back of your eye) is the only place in the human body where you can directly view blood vessels? This means that in addition to eye diseases, the retina can also show signs of systemic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, stroke, tumors, and much more. Early signs of these conditions can be seen on your retina long before you experience any symptoms.

In order to provide you with the highest quality, comprehensive eye exam, Sherwood Park Optometry has invested in the latest technology for retinal imaging – the 2018 Monaco Optomap. This technology provides an ultra-wide field digital image that captures over 80% of your retina, allowing for yourself and our optometrists to view the back of your eye within seconds. Being able to visualize the peripheral retina is important because we now know that many eye diseases occur or begin at the outer edges of the retina. Optomap imaging can facilitate early detection of both systemic and ocular diseases, and early protection from blindness and visual impairment. Being able to document and follow any retinal pathology with each visit to our clinic is valuable in the treatment and management process.

Getting an optomap is safe, quick, and painless. Within seconds you can see what your practitioner sees when they look into the back of your eye! No matter your age, our optometrists recommend this imaging as a part of your annual comprehensive exam.
